New appointments

According to "Krasnaya Zvezda" ("Red Star" - the Russian analogue of "Stars and Stripes"), the Russian Defence Minister Anagoly Serduykov has just appointed four (acting) commanders for the Military Districts. Thus, General-colonel Arkady Bakhin (until recently - the commander of Volga-Ural Military District) took over the West Military District, General-lieutenant Alexander Galkin (formerly in charge of North-Caucasian Military District) is the commander of the South Military District, Admiral Konstantin Sidenko (commander of the Pacific Fleet) was put in charge the East Military District, while General-lieutenant Vladimir Chirkin (formerly in charge of the Siberian Military District) is now the commander of the Central Military District. Please be reminded that the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev recently approved the formation of the four Military Districts and accordingly, - the corredponding four Operational Strategic Commands (OSC).
